Álamos, Sonora
Álamos was founded on December 8, 1685, originally it was called Real de la Limpia Concepción de los Álamos and also Real de los Frailes. Also known as "The City of Portals", Álamos was built by architects from the city of Andalusia, Spain. Among its main attractions is the Plaza de Armas, in the heart of the city where its emblematic Moorish kiosk is located, surrounded by palm trees and beautiful gardens.
An example of its beautiful architecture is the Municipal Palace, a solid brick construction supported by 48 iron columns dating from 1899. Álamos offers us a colonial landscape that will make you enjoy an unforgettable vacation.
It is currently the venue for one of the most important cultural events in the northwest of the country, the Alfonso Ortiz Tirado International Festival, as the famous doctor, tenor and composer was born here. Álamos also saw the birth of María Félix, to whom a museum is dedicated that exhibits more than 700 pieces and some authentic personal objects of "la Doña".
Characteristics:
Its origin dates back to 1683 when the La Europea vein was discovered, at the foot of the majestic Sierra de Álamos, owner of an amazing biodiversity.
Its time of splendor was thanks to mining.
Ostímuri was the original indigenous name of this people. After colonization it was known as Real de los Frailes, due to the rocky fault that simulates two friars.
Its climate is semi-dry and semi-warm, with an average annual temperature of 24° C; in summer the temperature reaches 30º C and during winter the range varies from 17º to 2º C.

Cerro de la memoria
Its name is due to the fact that the first settlers used it as a cemetery calling it Memorian Hill.
It is one of the most attractive promenades in the region and, with its 160 m high, it has become the icon of the city. There is a paved path that leads to the pergola.
At the top of the hill is the statue of the Virgin Queen of the Valle del Fuerte with 11 m high and you have a spectacular panoramic view of the city, as well as the Sinaloa coast.
A curious fact is that three lighthouses have been located on this hill, making it the only non-coastal city in the country that has built lighthouses. The first was built in 1929, on the initiative of Sherwood Johnston, with the purpose of serving as a guide for air and sea navigation. This lighthouse was destroyed when it wanted to be cleaned and the next one was built in the 60's. The third was inaugurated in 2003 but fell into disuse.
As of 2013 there is a bike path that runs 3.4 km around the hill.
